On August 5, the Lansing Police Department will host its annual National Night Out at Fox Pointe. The free event runs from 5 to 8 PM, and offers families a fun, relaxed way to connect with law enforcement and local organizations. This beloved event blends fun and purpose — with everything from face painting and bouncy houses to giveaways, music, and one very popular attraction: the Prize Wheel.
An Event That Builds Trust
National Night Out is a nationwide initiative held every first Tuesday in August. Its mission is to build stronger relationships between communities and local police.
In Lansing, Detective Lieutenant John Tomaszewski sees the event as an important opportunity.
“We want to show the community that the police department is here for them,” Tomaszewski said. “This event helps us build that bond. The community is our extra eyes and ears on crime.”
Free Activities, Local Booths, and a Popular Prize Wheel
The evening will include music, face painting, a bouncy house, and free hot dogs. Local organizations such as the Lansing Public Library, Lansing School District 158, the Youth Center, and the Humane Society will set up booths and give away items.
One of the most popular booths belongs to McDonald’s, run by local owner Jose Gutierrez. For the third year, Gutierrez will bring a community prize wheel packed with giveaways.
“I love these events,” Gutierrez said. “They give us a chance to show up, give back, and be present in the neighborhoods we serve.”
The Prize Wheel That Connects People
Gutierrez said the prize wheel helps break the ice and bring people together.
“The energy is always incredible. Kids spin the prize wheel while parents talk with officers and neighbors,” he said. “That’s what this night is all about — fun, laughter, and real connections.”
A Night That Reflects Lansing’s Strength
Families leave the event with smiles and prizes, but more importantly, with a stronger sense of community.
“When people come together like this, it reminds us how strong Lansing really is,” Gutierrez said.
The National Night Out at Fox Pointe promises another evening full of memories — and a prize wheel that keeps the fun spinning.
